Fruits of the Harvest - Potatoes

There's not much better than the sight of a freshly stored crop
 of Maine Potatoes.

Morning Light

A beautiful morning in Maine.  These shots were taken a few days ago from my back yard.  The view was changing by the moment as a low hanging fog drifted through the area.

Fall in Aroostook County, ME

My wife took several shots of fall today in Aroostook County.  She captured these great shots of pumpkins that I thought I'd share on my blog.  It's not quite time for a fall foliage tour in Aroostook, however, the potato harvest is now in full swing.  A weekend ride would most likely include sights of the fall harvest as the farmers are bringing in their corps for another season - an Aroostook count tradition!  Hope to post a few shots of harvest in a few days.  In the meantime, enjoy these early fall photos in Maine!

Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Montreal - beautiful old city.  One of the highlights was a visit to the site of the 1976 Summer Olympics.  Great stop, below are a few shots of the observatory.  The first photo shows the outside of the observatory... notice the track up the center.  That's the oversized elevator track.  The next few shots are the views on the way up.  Once at the top, you can see for miles and get a real perspective of how Montreal is laid out.  I highly recommend taking this trip at the beginning of any visit to Montreal.  After this, we visited different sections of the stadium.  A highlight was seeing high dive practice in the olympic pool.  Finally, a tour of the Biodome.  Great display of animals, birds, etc.  Great visit, friendly people everywhere.

My Camera

My goal for this website is to share shots of Maine along with some random shots from other parts of the world - should excursions present themselves.  So, for those of you more experienced photographers out there (I'm definitely a novice), my Camera is a Cannon EOS Rebel T2i (for stats - http://usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_rebel_t2i_ef_s_18_55is_ii_kit).  Cannon provides a lot of flexibility with this camera.  Continuing to learn new things as I use it.  Currently have a EFS 18-55mm stabilizer lens.  Would like to next add a 55-250mm to the collection at some point.

Since this camera takes the shots at about 18 mega pixels, I'm using Picasa 3 to downsize the photos some in order to make it easier to post on my blog.

I'm always looking for ways to improve my knowledge of photography and this equipment.  Therefore, if you know this camera well and want to share some advise, feel free.

The Harbor of Boothbay Harbor, ME

The August 4th - 7th trip to Boothbay Harbor included a magnificent trip on the Schooner Lazy Jack, a historic wooden windjammer. Any trip to Boothbay should include a schooner trip on the harbor. Another great schooner on Boothbay is the Schooner Eastwind, its owners built this schooner. It's a little bigger than the Lazy Jack providing a slightly different sailing perspective. My trip did not include a ride on the Eastwind, but I hope to do that next time. (Of course, a repeat trip on the Lazy Jack would be splendid as well. I suggest hitting them both!) Below are a few shots from the beautiful Harbor of Boothbay. P.S., you also have to check out the Boothbay Lobster Wharf....in fact just typing this makes my mouth water for some of their delicious freshly cooked steamed clams and lobster. If you catch them at the right time, they'll even shuck an oyster for you.
